Richard Plantagenet, also known as Richard of York, was a key figure in the Wars of the Roses. He was the son of Richard, Earl of Cambridge, and Anne Mortimer, the great-granddaughter of Lionel, Duke of Clarence, the second son of King Edward III. Richard Plantagenet's claim to the throne was through his mother, who was the heir presumptive to her uncle, King Richard II.
