Richard Trevithick was born in Cornwall, England in 1771. He was a Cornish engineer who was known for his work on steam engines and locomotives. Trevithick built the first steam-powered locomotive to run on rails in 1804. He also designed and built a number of other steam engines, including a steam-powered road locomotive and a steam-powered boat.
