At the age of 33, Roland Ratzenberger secured his Formula One seat. Despite his relatively late entry into the sport, Ratzenberger had a successful career in lower-level racing, winning the Japanese Formula 3 Championship in 1990. His F1 debut came with the Simtek team in 1994, but his career was tragically cut short when he was killed in an accident during qualifying for the San Marino Grand Prix.
