The Mongolian warlord Baron Ungern von Sternberg restored the monarchic power of the Bogd Khan in February 1921, when he led a cavalry charge into the city of Urga and took control of the government. Ungern had been a supporter of the Bogd Khan, who had been deposed by the Chinese in 1911, and he believed that the Bogd Khan was the rightful ruler of Mongolia.
