Ronald Evans was born in Aurora, Kansas, in 1933. He attended the University of Kansas, where he studied aeronautical engineering. He was also a member of the Reserve Officer Training Corps. After graduating from college, Evans joined the United States Air Force. He became a fighter pilot and flew combat missions in the Korean War. In 1965, he was selected to become an astronaut.
