Ronnie James Dio, the late heavy metal singer, was born in Portsmouth, New Hampshire, on July 10, 1942. Dio was raised in a musical family and began playing guitar at an early age. He later formed his own band, Elf, which released several albums in the early 1970s. Dio joined Black Sabbath in 1975 and released several albums with the band, including Heaven and Hell and Mob Rules.
