Saalumarada Thimmakka and her husband started planting banyan trees in 1942. The first one was planted along the road that they used to travel daily. They planted more trees and soon, a forest was formed. They continued planting trees throughout their lives. The forest now covers an area of 38 acres and has more than 400 trees.
