Answer
Following the departure of Klaus Toppmöller in early 2000, Berti Vogts took charge as interim manager until the end of the season. Vogts, a former West Germany international and coach, had previously managed several clubs and national teams, including the German national team from 1990 to 1998. Despite his experience, he was unable to turn Bayer Leverkusen's fortunes around and left the club at the end of the season.
