The Frisch–Peierls memorandum, authored by Otto Frisch and Rudolf Peierls, was the first document to conclude that the atomic bomb could be constructed from a small amount of fissile uranium-235. The memorandum was written in December 1939 and submitted to the British government in January 1940. It concluded that a bomb could be constructed using about 1 kilogram of uranium-235.
