Gordon Banks was bought by Leicester City for £7,000 in July 1959. Banks had previously played for Chesterfield, but he was sold to Leicester after impressing during a friendly match against the club. Banks went on to become one of the best goalkeepers in the world, winning the FIFA World Cup with England in 1966 and being named the IFFHS World's Best Goalkeeper six times.
