Sally Ride left NASA in 1987 after serving as an astronaut for six years. She was the first American woman to travel to space, and she flew on two Space Shuttle missions. After leaving NASA, Ride became a professor of physics at the University of California, San Diego. She also served on the board of directors for several companies, including the Walt Disney Company and the Gap.
