Sally Ride was born in 1951. She was an American astronaut, physicist, and engineer. She was the first American woman to travel to space, aboard the Space Shuttle Challenger in 1983. Ride was also the first woman to serve on the NASA Astronaut Selection Board. She died in 2012 at the age of 61.
