In 1887, the first Australian delegation to the Colonial Conference was led by Samuel Griffith. Griffith was a barrister and politician who served as the Premier of Queensland from 1883 to 1888. He was also a member of the Federal Convention of Australia, which drafted the Australian Constitution. The Colonial Conference was a meeting of representatives from the British colonies in Australia, New Zealand, and South Africa.
