Sennacherib was a king of the Neo-Assyrian Empire who ruled from 705 BC to 681 BC. He was the son of Sargon II and succeeded him to the throne. Sennacherib was a ruthless and ambitious ruler who expanded the Assyrian Empire to its greatest extent. He conquered Babylon, Elam, and Judah, and built the city of Nineveh. Sennacherib was assassinated by his sons in 681 BC.
