Sennacherib was an Assyrian king who ruled from 705 to 681 BC. He was the son of Sargon II and the father of Esarhaddon. Sennacherib was a powerful and successful king who expanded the Assyrian Empire to its greatest extent. He is best known for his siege of Jerusalem in 701 BC. Sennacherib died in 681 BC, possibly as a result of an assassination plot.
