Answer
Nineveh was an ancient city in Mesopotamia, located on the Tigris River, just north of what is now Mosul, Iraq. It was the capital of the Assyrian Empire under the rule of Sennacherib, and was one of the largest and most important cities in the ancient world. The city was destroyed in 612 BC by an alliance of the Medes and Babylonians, and never fully recovered.
