Marduk-apla-iddina II, a Chaldean tribal chief, troubled Sennacherib, the Assyrian king, and was a major threat to the Assyrian Empire. He was able to conquer Babylon and hold it for a number of years, but eventually Sennacherib was able to retake the city and defeat Marduk-apla-iddina II.
