Sergei Korolev was a Soviet rocket engineer who was involved in the development of the Soviet space program. He was the chief designer of the R-7 Semyorka, the first intercontinental ballistic missile, and the Vostok spacecraft, the first manned spacecraft. Korolev also planned for a Soviet crewed Moon landing, but he died in 1966 before the program could be completed.
