Before ascending to the Polish and Lithuanian thrones, Jagiello was the Duke of Głogów, a Duchy in Silesia. He was born in 1351 in the Kingdom of Hungary to King Louis I and Elizabeth of Bosnia. Jagiello's father was killed in battle when he was only nine years old, and he was subsequently raised by his mother.
