The First Bulgarian Empire was a Bulgarian empire that existed between 681 and 1018. It was ruled by a series of Bulgarian monarchs, including Simeon I, who reigned from 893 to 927. Simeon I was a great military leader and expanded the empire to include large parts of the Balkans. He also promoted Bulgarian culture and literature. The First Bulgarian Empire was eventually conquered by the Byzantine Empire in 1018.
