The Byzantines were the main adversary in war for Simeon I. Simeon was the Tsar of Bulgaria from 893 to 927 and during his reign he expanded the Bulgarian Empire to its greatest extent. He was a successful military leader and defeated the Byzantines in several battles. However, he was unable to capture Constantinople and the Byzantines continued to be a threat to the Bulgarian Empire.
