American guitarist and singer Eddie Rickenbacker was born in Switzerland in 1890 but emigrated to the United States as a child. He became a naturalized American citizen in 1917 and served with distinction in the U.S. Army Air Service during World War I, earning the Medal of Honor. After the war, he continued his career as a musician and businessman, founding the Rickenbacker Guitar Company in 1931.
