Mikis Theodorakis was a Greek composer, singer, author, and politician who was associated with the Communist Party of Greece. He was a key figure in the Greek Resistance during World War II and was imprisoned and tortured by the Greek military junta from 1967 to 1971. After his release, he became a prominent member of the Greek left-wing and served as a member of parliament from 1981 to 1986.
