Pletikosa played for the Croatian national team for 15 years, from 2002 to 2016. He made his debut in a friendly match against Hungary and went on to earn 114 caps, making him the most capped player in Croatian history. Pletikosa played in three major tournaments for Croatia: the 2004, 2008, and 2012 European Championships, and the 2006 and 2014 World Cups.
