Svante Arrhenius spent most of his scientific career in Stockholm, Sweden. He was born in Stockholm in 1859 and died there in 1927. He studied chemistry at the University of Uppsala and then went on to work as a professor at the University of Stockholm. He is best known for his work on the greenhouse effect, which he proposed in 1896.
