Larry Doby was born on December 13, 1923 in Camden, South Carolina. He was the first African-American to play in the American League, breaking the color barrier in 1947 with the Cleveland Indians. He played for the Indians for 11 seasons, and was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1998.
