Tadeusz Mazowiecki initially made his name in the field of journalism. He began his career as a journalist in the 1950s and worked as a foreign correspondent for several years. He was also a co-founder of the Catholic weekly magazine Tygodnik Powszechny in 1958. Mazowiecki's work as a journalist allowed him to develop his political views and he became a leading figure in the Solidarity movement in the 1980s.
