U2 was formed in 1976, when four teenage boys from Dublin, Ireland, came together to form a band. The band members were Bono (Paul David Hewson), The Edge (David Howell Evans), Adam Clayton, and Larry Mullen Jr. They initially called themselves "Feedback" but later changed their name to "U2" in 1978.
