Isaac Komnenos of Cyprus was a nephew of the Byzantine Emperor Andronikos I Komnenos. He was born in Constantinople and became a member of the court of his uncle. In 1184, he was sent to Cyprus as governor, where he ruled for the next five years. He was a capable administrator and oversaw the construction of several important buildings, including the Monastery of St. Chrysostomos.
