Eric Gerets started his playing career at AA Rekem, a Belgian football club that was founded in 1913. The club is based in Rekem, a town in the province of Limburg. Gerets made his debut for the club in the 1971-72 season and went on to play for them for four seasons. During his time at the club, Gerets helped them to win the Belgian Second Division title in 1974.
