Lars Løkke Rasmussen has participated in three general elections as party leader. In 2005, he led the Danish Liberal Party to victory, becoming the youngest prime minister in Danish history. He was re-elected in 2007 and 2011. In 2015, he lost the election to the Social Democrats, but remained in office as prime minister until 2019, when he was defeated by Social Democrat Mette Frederiksen.
