Georgi Dimitrov was a Bulgarian communist politician who served as the first leader of the People's Republic of Bulgaria from 1946 until his death in 1978. He died in a plane crash while on a state visit to Yugoslavia. The crash occurred on 2 July 1978 near Sofia, Bulgaria, and killed all 11 people on board.
