From the mid-1890s until his death, Wood focused on concert conducting. He was one of the first to conduct from memory, and his conducting was known for its clarity and precision. He conducted the London Symphony Orchestra from 1895 to 1922, and the New York Philharmonic Orchestra from 1909 to 1924. He was also the principal conductor of the Royal Albert Hall Orchestra from 1895 to 1922.
