Petru Groza met with Michael on the morning of his second abdication. Michael had been forced to abdicate once before, in 1940, but the Germans had allowed him to return to the throne in 1944. However, in 1947, the Soviets decided that they wanted a more reliable ruler in Romania, and they forced Michael to abdicate again.
