Paddy Ashdown held a seat in the House of Commons for 18 years. He was elected to the House of Commons in 1974 as the member of parliament for Yeovil and served until 1992. During his time in the House of Commons, he held several positions, including shadow foreign secretary and shadow defence secretary. He also served as the leader of the Liberal Democrats from 1988 to 1999.
