At the age of 20, Shane Long made his senior debut for the Republic of Ireland. He was playing for Reading at the time and had been capped by the Republic of Ireland at under-17, under-19 and under-21 levels. He made his senior debut in a friendly against Italy in 2009 and has since gone on to make over 60 appearances for his country.
