Bobby Sands, a prominent figure in the Northern Irish republican movement, was elected to the British Parliament as a member of the Anti H-Block campaign during his hunger strike in 1981. He was elected as a Member of Parliament (MP) for Fermanagh and South Tyrone, becoming one of the first prisoners to be elected to the House of Commons while in prison.
