Helene Weyl was born Helene Joseph on May 27, 1885 in Königsberg, Prussia (now Kaliningrad, Russia). She was the daughter of a rabbi and attended the University of Königsberg, where she studied mathematics. In 1911, she married Hermann Weyl, another mathematician. They had three children together: Hermann Jr., Friedrich, and Ruth. In 1913, Helene Weyl published her first paper, which was on Theory of numbers.
