Oda Nobunaga was a Japanese daimyo and warlord who, with Toyotomi Hideyoshi and Tokugawa Ieyasu, formed the Three Great Unifiers of Japan at the end of the Sengoku period. Ieyasu succeeded his father, Matsudaira Hirotada, as the daimyo of Mikawa Province in 1551, and under the patronage of Oda Nobunaga, rose to become one of the most powerful daimyo in Japan.
