Oda Nobunaga, Toyotomi Hideyoshi, and Tokugawa Ieyasu are considered the three "Great Unifiers" of Japan. They were all samurai warlords who lived in the 16th century and were responsible for bringing the country together under one rule. Nobunaga was the first to begin the process, but he was assassinated before he could finish. Hideyoshi took over and continued Nobunaga's work, but he died before he could establish a dynasty.
