Tom Carper is the last Vietnam War veteran in the Senate. Carper served as a naval aviator in the Vietnam War. He was shot down over North Vietnam and spent over seven years as a prisoner of war. After returning home, Carper served as governor of Delaware from 1993 to 2001. He was elected to the Senate in 2000 and has served there ever since.
