Campanella spent 27 years in prison for his political beliefs, which were considered radical and dangerous by the authorities at the time. He was arrested in 1599 and remained imprisoned until 1626 when he was finally released. During his time in prison, he wrote many of his philosophical and scientific works, including his most famous work, "The City of the Sun".
