Toussaint Louverture, who was born into slavery, held several jobs before he was granted his freedom. He worked as a planter, slave owner, coachman, muleteer, and miller. These jobs helped him to learn about the different aspects of plantation life and to develop the skills that would later help him to lead the Haitian Revolution.
