Toussaint Louverture was jailed in the Fort de Joux in France. He was imprisoned there for a year and a half before dying of pneumonia in 1803. The fort is located in the Jura Mountains, near the Swiss border. It is a cold and damp place, and Louverture suffered greatly there.
