Ghassan Kanafani was a Palestinian writer and activist who was born in Acre, Ottoman Palestine. He lived in Lebanon for most of his life and was assassinated there by the Israeli Mossad in 1972. Kanafani was a member of the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine and was a vocal critic of Israeli occupation of Palestine.
