Which party did Cook leave in 1894?

  • Conservative Party

  • Liberal Party

  • Labor Party

  • Free Trade Party

Answer

The Labor Party is the party Joseph Cook defected from in 1894. Initially a member of the New South Wales Legislative Assembly as an Independent Labour member from 1891 to 1894, he left because of his support for free trade and the federation of the Australian colonies. He would later join the Protectionist Party at the Australian federal level before switching allegiances yet again.
