In honor of his contribution to the U.S Navy, the U.S military named a warship after John S. McCain Sr. The USS John S. McCain (DDG-56) is a guided missile destroyer of the Arleigh Burke class. It was launched in 1992 and commissioned in 1994. The ship is named after Admiral John S. McCain Sr., a World War II hero and father of the late Senator John S. McCain III.
