Roberto Bolaño was born in 1953. He was a Chilean novelist, poet, and short story writer. He is considered one of the most important Spanish-language writers of the late 20th and early 21st centuries. His work has been translated into more than 30 languages and has won numerous awards, including the Rómulo Gallegos International Novel Prize and the Herralde Prize.
