The StB (short for "Státní bezpečnost" or "State Security") was a former Communist state security service in Czechoslovakia. It was founded in 1945 and existed until 1990. The StB was responsible for spying on and suppressing political dissidents, as well as conducting surveillance and infiltration of opposition groups. The StB was also involved in the assassination of several political opponents of the Communist regime.
