Dr. Mohammed Helmy was an Egyptian-born surgeon, who is most well-known for being the first surgeon to perform a successful human kidney transplant. Helmy was born in Egypt in 1889, and studied medicine at the University of Cairo. After graduating, he worked as a surgeon in Egypt for several years before moving to the United States in 1926.
